In the Andijan region of Uzbekistan, customs officers have prevented an attempt to illegally export $16,400 in cash. The money was discovered hidden inside a man's shoes as he tried to cross the border.

During customs control, the individual failed to declare the currency and attempted to transport it covertly. The vigilant officers detected the concealed funds.

Under current regulations, residents of Uzbekistan are allowed to take out foreign currency in cash up to the equivalent of 100 million soums. The detected amount significantly exceeded this limit.

A customs investigation has been launched into the incident. The offender may face administrative penalties.

Earlier, in Andijan, a 51-year-old man attempted to smuggle $35,600 by hiding the money inside a traditional skullcap.
