️ Former Palestinian detainees have revealed harrowing accounts of dehumanizing treatment, torture, and sexual violence at the hands of Israeli guards and soldiers. Speaking to Al Jazeera from Gaza, many said their psychological ordeal continues even after release.
️ Mohammed al-Bakri, arrested during Israeli operations in Gaza in March 2024, was held for about 20 months. He described being stripped naked, attacked by dogs, and sexually assaulted by soldiers. “Dogs were unleashed on us and viciously attacked us. Some soldiers used sexual objects,” he said.
️ Upon release, al-Bakri learned his wife had been killed in an Israeli strike. Advocacy groups report over 9,600 Palestinians are now held in Israeli prisons, an 83% increase from pre-war levels, including 350 children and 3,530 administrative detainees.
️ A 17-year-old identified as Ahmed was detained near an aid point in Rafah. He alleged that eight female soldiers stripped him, touched his genitals, and forced him to repeat degrading phrases while filming.
️ The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor documented seven forms of sexual violence in its April report “Another Genocide Behind Walls.” Maha Hussaini told Al Jazeera that these cases are part of a systematic pattern.
️ Kifaya Khraim, after interviewing 75 women detainees, stated that sexual violence is “very widespread” and “systematic,” not isolated incidents. She noted both male and female Palestinian victims and Israeli perpetrators.
