On the eve of the FIFA World Cup, Gazeta and Dmitry Povarov present a detailed analysis of Group E. This group features a German defense that is no longer as strong as before, Ecuador aiming to concede the fewest goals, Ivory Coast seeking a spot in the knockout stage, and Curaçao hoping to become the tournament's sensation.

Germany is the most decorated team in World Cup history, with four gold medals (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014), four silver (1966, 1982, 1986, 2002), and four bronze (1934, 1970, 2006, 2010). This will be their 22nd overall and 19th consecutive World Cup. Under Julian Nagelsmann, Germany surprisingly lost 0-2 to Slovakia in their opening qualifier but bounced back with a 6-0 win in the final match to top the group. They are ranked 9th by FIFA.

Germany's main strength is the duo of Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich) and Florian Wirtz (Liverpool), who can effectively break down defenses. Captain Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich) plays a key role in the 4-2-3-1 formation. Attackers include Serge Gnabry, Kai Havertz, Nick Woltemade, and Deniz Undav. However, the defense is a weakness: Manuel Neuer and Marc-André ter Stegen are out injured, and Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nübel lack reliability. Antonio Rüdiger's return from injury and Nico Schlotterbeck's inconsistency further undermine confidence.

Curaçao is one of the smallest nations ever to qualify for the World Cup. The Caribbean island, with a population of 190,000, reached the tournament for the first time by winning their group undefeated and eliminating Jamaica in the playoffs. They are ranked 82nd by FIFA. The architect of their success is 78-year-old Dutch coach Dick Advocaat, who implemented a simple yet effective system featuring goalkeeper Eloy Room, defender Armando Obispo, midfielder Leandro Bacuna, winger Tahith Chong, and striker Jürgen Locadia. However, Advocaat resigned in February due to family issues, and his replacement Fred Rutten struggled. Advocaat returned in May, but the team remains unsettled.

Ivory Coast (the Elephants) are making their fourth World Cup appearance. After missing the previous two tournaments, they dominated qualifying with 8 wins and 2 draws in 10 matches, scoring 25 goals and conceding none. They are ranked 42nd by FIFA. The team's strength is the harmony between coach Emerse Faé and the players, with captain Franck Kessié, wingers Amad Diallo and Simon Adingra leading the way. However, the attack is weak: Sébastien Haller has lost form after injury, and his replacements are promising but inexperienced. The goalkeeping department is also unreliable.

Ecuador (La Tri) are appearing in their fifth World Cup. In qualifying, they finished second behind Argentina, conceding just 5 goals in 18 matches – the best defensive record in South American qualifying history. They are ranked 23rd by FIFA. Their main strength is defense: coach Sebastián Beccacece has built a disciplined and compact 4-4-2 system. Willian Pacho and Piero Hincapié form one of the most reliable center-back pairings. In midfield, Moisés Caicedo (Chelsea) is among the world's best defensive midfielders. However, the attack is weak: 35-year-old Enner Valencia is playing in his last World Cup, and his partners Kendry Páez and Gonzalo Plata are inconsistent.

Match schedule: Curaçao vs Germany, Ecuador vs Ivory Coast, Germany vs Ecuador, Ivory Coast vs Curaçao, Curaçao vs Ecuador, Germany vs Ivory Coast. Germany's advancement is almost certain, while Ecuador and Ivory Coast will battle for second place. Curaçao is expected to win hearts but not points.

Opta computer prediction: Germany first, Ecuador second, Ivory Coast third, Curaçao fourth. Gazeta prediction: Germany to reach at least the semifinals, Ecuador to advance to the knockout stage, while Ivory Coast and Curaçao will be eliminated in the group stage.
