Police in Northern Ireland have appealed for calm after a violent knife attack in Belfast left one man seriously injured. The incident is being treated as attempted murder, but investigators say there is no indication of a terrorist motive.

A 30-year-old Sudanese national has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He was reportedly living locally after moving from Dublin and had been granted leave to remain. The victim, a man in his 40s, suffered severe injuries to his eyes, face, and back from a kitchen knife.

Footage of the attack circulating online shows several members of the public intervening before police arrived. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the attack as “sickening” and thanked those who stepped in to help.

Far-right agitator Tommy Robinson and his supporter Elon Musk have called for widespread protests across the UK, listing 70 locations. Police fear a repeat of last year's migration-related riots in Northern Ireland, which followed the alleged attempted rape of a schoolgirl.

Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson stated: “Nobody in Northern Ireland wants to see a repeat of the disorder that we have seen in recent years.” He urged clear communication to counter misinformation and rumors.
