German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that a proposed pension reform package must be fully implemented. He emphasized that the 33 proposals from a special commission form an integrated concept and cannot be cherry-picked.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, 21% of Germany's population (17.3 million people) cannot afford a one-week summer holiday. Among single parents, the figure rises to 39%. The EU average is 28%.

A School Barometer survey commissioned by the Robert Bosch Foundation found that 46% of teachers in Germany consider pupil behavior the biggest source of stress in their profession, up from 35% in 2024.

82% of teachers expressed a desire for additional training. Many highlighted the need to teach democracy and artificial intelligence. While 83% reported high job satisfaction, one in four said they would leave the profession if an acceptable alternative existed.

Temperatures in parts of Germany could reach 40°C (104°F) on Friday, potentially breaking the June record of 39.6°C set in 2019. Fire danger is increasing, with high alert levels in the south and Brandenburg.

Merz argued that the pension reform fairly distributes the burden across all social groups and generations, calling for swift implementation of all proposals.
