What began as satire on social media has turned into a massive Gen Z-led protest movement driven by anger over corruption and high youth unemployment. There are signs it is finding traction outside of Delhi.

The youth-led movement, calling itself the 'Cockroach Janta Party (CJP),' began in May after Indian Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant referred to unemployed young people as 'cockroaches.' Young people embraced the moniker, channeling their anger at the education system and massive youth unemployment.

Protesters are demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The movement has put pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP government. Police crackdowns, including tear gas and baton charges, have only fueled further protests.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has backed the students' demands, including an apology from Modi. Solidarity rallies have emerged in Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, and other states.

Political analysts believe the CJP has the potential to become a nationwide force due to its simple demands, but it faces challenges such as language barriers and the urban-rural divide. BJP officials doubt the movement can overcome these obstacles.
