Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein was resentenced on Wednesday to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006. The new sentence comes after an appeals court overturned his original 23-year term in 2024, and a jury found him guilty again in 2025.

The 74-year-old, wheelchair-bound Weinstein made an appeal for leniency, apologizing to those he may have hurt. "I do have remorse for Miriam Haley's pain, but I have to reiterate my innocence," he told the judge. Haley stressed the assault was akin to "a life sentence." "Having been sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein has had a devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away. Making the decision to speak up will have me looking over my shoulder for years to come," she said.

Prosecutors had sought a 20-year sentence, but his lawyers warned that a longer sentence would likely see him die in prison. Weinstein is battling blood cancer, congestive heart failure, and kidney issues. Once one of Hollywood's most powerful kingpins, his fall from grace came when sexual assault allegations compounded against him in 2017, spiraling into Hollywood's #MeToo movement.

Weinstein also awaits a resentencing in a separate rape and assault case in California, where he is accused of assaulting an actress in a Los Angeles hotel room in 2013. In June, an appeals court upheld his conviction but scrapped his 16-year prison term. Meanwhile, prosecutors said they will not pursue a fourth trial in the case of him sexually assaulting actor Jessica Mann. In May, a New York judge declared a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a verdict. It was the third time Mann had taken the stand against Weinstein and she said she could not bear to testify again.
