In Tashkent, a 16-year-old student without a driver's license hit a road patrol officer with a BMW M4 car. The inspector sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized. The incident was captured in a video that spread on social media.
Press secretary of the Prosecutor General's Office, Hayot Shamsutdinov, confirmed that a criminal case has been initiated. Punishment is envisaged under Article 266 of the Criminal Code for traffic rule violations causing serious bodily harm.
The Ministry of Justice announced that on February 17, a draft law to strengthen penalties for illegal street racing was sent for interagency coordination. The draft proposes introducing administrative and criminal liability for organizing and participating in such races.
Shamsutdinov stated: "Nighttime races in Tashkent threaten people's safety. These incidents disrupt public order and pose a real risk to human life."
