At a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the leadership of the association was criticized for lacking new initiatives and unsatisfactory performance in the industry.

During the session focused on ensuring high economic growth rates in sectors and regions, it was noted that the management of "Uzcharmsanoat" failed to introduce new approaches to sector development and did not ensure effective operations on the ground. Consequently, an order was given to dismiss the association's chairman, Akbar Sultonov, from his position.

It was reported that out of 972 shoe manufacturing enterprises, 378 have suspended operations, and another 120 are using less than half of their capacity. Dependence on imports persists in areas such as lasts, laces, and accessories.

As a result, last year's outcomes did not even achieve 40% of the announced $250 million export target. The production and export plan for the current year was also deemed unsatisfactory.

Akbar Sultonov was appointed as chairman of the association in November 2024.
