At a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the leadership of the association was criticized for lacking new initiatives and unsatisfactory performance in the industry.
During the session focused on ensuring high rates of economic growth in sectors and regions, it was noted that the management of "Uzcharmsanoat" failed to introduce new approaches to sector development and did not ensure effective work on the ground. Consequently, an order was given to dismiss the association's chairman, Akbar Sultonov, from his position.
It was highlighted that out of 972 footwear manufacturing enterprises, 378 have suspended operations, and another 120 are using less than half of their capacity. Dependence on imports persists in areas such as lasts, laces, and accessories.
As a result, last year's export figures did not even reach 40% of the announced $250 million target. The production and export plan for the current year has also been deemed unsatisfactory.
Akbar Sultonov was appointed chairman of the association in November 2024.
