At a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the leadership of the association was criticized for a lack of new initiatives and unsatisfactory performance in the industry.
During the session focused on ensuring high rates of economic growth in sectors and regions, it was noted that the management of "Uzcharmsanoat" had not introduced new approaches to sector development and had failed to ensure effective work at the local level. Consequently, an order was given to dismiss the association's chairman, Akbar Sultonov, from his position.
It was reported that out of 972 shoe manufacturing enterprises, 378 have suspended operations, and another 120 are using less than half of their capacity. Dependence on imports persists in areas such as lasts, laces, and accessories.
As a result, by the end of last year, even 40% of the announced $250 million in exports was not achieved. The production and export plan for the current year has also been deemed unsatisfactory.
Akbar Sultonov was appointed as chairman of the association in November 2024.
