Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov commented on statements from European countries regarding the possible poisoning of opposition politician Alexei Navalny, stating that the Kremlin considers such accusations unfounded and biased.
According to Peskov, Moscow "resolutely rejects" conclusions suggesting that Navalny's death could have been caused by poisoning. He emphasized that the Russian side does not accept such accusations and disagrees with their content.
Earlier, the United Kingdom, Sweden, France, the Netherlands, and Germany published a joint report on the causes of the politician's death. The document claims that "with a high degree of probability" he could have died due to exposure to epibatidine—a lethal toxin extracted from the skin of a poisonous frog native to Ecuador. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova called these statements an information dump.
Alexei Navalny, founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, died on February 16, 2024, at the age of 47 in the "Polar Wolf" penal colony. He was serving a 19-year sentence on charges of creating an extremist community. According to the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the politician fell ill during a walk and subsequently passed away.
