President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is paying a working visit to Astana on November 5–6 at the invitation of Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and King Abdullah II of Jordan. The high-level visit aims to address pressing regional security challenges and foster closer multilateral cooperation.
As part of the official agenda, the Uzbek leader will participate in a meeting of Central Asian heads of state under the framework of the Aqaba Process. Discussions are expected to focus heavily on ensuring security within the artificial intelligence sector, countering the misuse of advanced technologies for terrorist and extremist purposes, and formulating coordinated responses to emerging technological risks.
The Aqaba Process itself was launched as an international initiative by King Abdullah II back in 2015. The platform is specifically designed to reinforce international cooperation in combating terrorism and violent extremism, facilitate the sharing of expertise in security matters, and effectively synchronize joint efforts among participating nations.
