In the city of Kokand, Fergana Region, two individuals were arrested for extortion involving threats with a cold weapon against a woman. This was reported by the press service of the regional Department of Internal Affairs (DIA). The suspects are Zilola Juraeva and Karimjon Gafurov, who committed the offense against the victim Sh. T.

According to available information, in February and March 2026, offenses related to debt transactions occurred between the victim Sh. T. and the suspects, for which the Kokand City DIA had taken legal measures. However, during the investigation initiated based on Sh. T.'s application on April 7, new facts emerged.

The investigation revealed that the suspects, starting from December 2025, provided the victim with $90,000 but then, adding interest, demanded the return of $842,000. By threatening her and her family members with a cold weapon, they regularly extorted money through blackmail.

In connection with this case, a criminal case was initiated against the suspects under Part 3 of Article 165 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Extortion), and a preventive measure of detention was applied. If found guilty in court, they could face punishment of imprisonment from 10 to 15 years. This incident once again highlights the urgency of combating extortion and violence in society.
