️ Uzbekistan's Minister of Construction and Housing-Communal Services, Sherzod Hidoyatov, announced at a press conference on March 5 that between 2018 and 2023, 570 high-rise buildings, comprising 38,000 apartments, were illegally constructed in the country. Criminal cases have been initiated against the entrepreneurs involved. The minister emphasized that 170 problematic projects were built in violation of regulations, such as failing to undergo expert reviews, not registering with control inspections, or buildings extending 40–50 cm beyond their allotted boundaries.
️ Hidoyatov stated that as of now, 90% of the 570 buildings have undergone instrumental inspections, with the process ongoing. Based on the inspection results, a system for granting permits to residents purchasing apartments is being developed. The checks are assessing compliance with safety standards during construction, as well as the availability of amenities like children's playgrounds and car parking spaces.
️ The minister added that criminal cases have already been filed against the entrepreneurs responsible for the illegal construction, and they will face criminal liability. He also noted that if a building's seismic resistance does not meet standards and the instrumental inspection report recommends demolition, the structure will definitely be dismantled.
️ Hidoyatov highlighted that the digitization of the system has made all construction activities traceable, and the absence of corruption has prevented further documentation of such violations. He previously addressed this issue at a meeting with entrepreneurs on December 18, explaining that illegal construction includes cases of building without land permits, without approval from architectural councils, and without submitting projects for expert review.
