Uzbekistani judoka Samariddin Kuchkorov secured the first medal for the national team at the prestigious Grand Slam series tournament in Tbilisi, Georgia. The 20-year-old athlete claimed the bronze medal in the under 60-kilogram weight category on the opening day of the competition.
In the bout for third place, Kuchkorov defeated experienced Belgian judoka Jorre Verstraeten. This victory marks his first medal at such a high-level international tournament and represents a significant milestone in his burgeoning career.
The international tournament commenced on March 20 in the Georgian capital, featuring over 400 athletes from 54 countries. The Uzbekistani team comprises nine male and five female judokas, with their performances in other weight categories anticipated in the coming days. The National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan highlighted this achievement as a positive indicator for the country's sports development.
