Tashkent is emerging as an international hub for backgammon – the Asian Grand Prix 2026 international tournament is being held here from March 23 to 29. The event has attracted hundreds of players from around the world, becoming one of the largest gatherings in this intellectual sport.

The tournament is taking place at the AXELON venue, where over 180 gaming tables have been set up. The program includes 12 disciplines – a record for tournaments of this format. The matches are overseen by 24 international referees, and viewers worldwide can watch the games via live broadcasts.

Organizers note that Asian Grand Prix 2026 is not only a sporting event but also a significant step in popularizing backgammon on the international stage. The tournament demonstrates growing interest in the game, strengthens Uzbekistan's position as a venue for world-scale competitions, and contributes to the development of event tourism.

Recently, Uzbek grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov won a silver medal in the blitz discipline at the World Chess Championship. This event reaffirmed Uzbekistan's successes in intellectual sports, yet efforts to develop traditional games like backgammon still await broader international recognition.
