A local resident of the Mirzachul district in the Jizzakh region has been found guilty of illegal drug trafficking in large quantities and sentenced to seven years in a general-regime penal colony, according to a ruling by the district criminal court.
Investigators determined that the defendant organized the sale via the Telegram messenger, where he found a buyer for the illegal transaction. In early January 2026, during a police operation in the Erjar mahalla, the man was caught red-handed attempting to sell 30.7 grams of hashish for 15 million soums.
During the trial, evidence was examined and witness testimony was heard. The defendant fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse, asking the court for leniency.
The court classified his actions under Part 5 of Article 273 of the Criminal Code (“Illegal sale of narcotic drugs, their analogues or psychotropic substances in large quantities”). However, in the final decision, Article 57 (“Sentencing in case of active repentance of the perpetrator”) was applied, allowing a more lenient punishment than typically prescribed for such a crime. As a result, the man will serve seven years in prison, with time served in custody since his arrest on January 3, 2026, counted toward the total sentence.
