President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 13 reviewed proposals to improve service quality and safety in the Tashkent Metro.
By 2030, the daily passenger flow is planned to reach 1.8 million, the number of stations to increase to 79, the total line length to 103 kilometers, and train intervals to be reduced to 1.5–3 minutes.
For 2026–2028, measures are planned to enhance passenger service quality and modernize the technical base of civil protection facilities.
To improve passenger safety, it was proposed to install glass protective barriers on the platforms of the Shahriston station on a trial basis. According to international experience, such barriers can reduce the number of accidents on platforms by 80–90%.
Additionally, the protective barriers will help increase metro revenues by creating extra advertising space.
Special attention was paid to generating additional income. Plans include auctioning digital advertising spaces in carriages and on platforms to the private sector, installing vending machines and small retail outlets at stations, and organizing parking lots near metro stations.
It was also proposed to lease out vacant metro buildings and structures to entrepreneurs through auctions for coworking spaces and small offices.
