In Uzbekistan, electric vehicles emerged as the fastest-growing segment of the automotive market in April. According to the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, sales of electric cars nearly doubled month-on-month, reaching 8,100 units.

Eco-friendly transport is most popular in the capital, with Tashkent accounting for about 70% of all electric vehicle sales. Overall, the highest market activity was recorded in Tashkent, Fergana, and Samarkand regions, where sales volumes grew significantly compared to last year.

A total of 88,200 cars were sold nationwide in April, down 1.9% year-on-year. Despite the monthly decline, the market has shown positive dynamics since the start of the year: 348,500 vehicles were sold in the first four months, up 4.1% from the same period last year.

In the new passenger car segment, April sales amounted to 24,900 units, with locally produced cars accounting for the bulk—around 21,300 units, up 4% year-on-year. Meanwhile, demand for new foreign cars dropped significantly, with only 3,600 units sold.

The used car market continued its decline. In April, 43,700 second-hand vehicles were sold, down more than 15% from April last year. Experts attribute this trend to a shift in consumer demand toward new domestic cars and rapidly gaining popularity of electric vehicles.
