Uzbekistan has launched an experiment to cultivate Arundo donax from root shoots. Just a month after planting, the first shoots appeared on two hectares. According to experts, the area will be completely covered with green vegetation within 15–25 days.
The project is led by Zinovy Novitsky, director of the Research Institute of Forestry under the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change. The hypothesis developed in the protective afforestation laboratory is being successfully confirmed in practice, opening new prospects for restoring degraded lands.
Tests of the root shoot cultivation technology demonstrate the potential for rapid and large-scale adoption of the crop.
Earlier, more than 4,000 residents in Karakalpakstan gained access to drinking water.
