Law enforcement officers in Uzbekistan have detained a vehicle on the Tashkent-Fergana highway, seizing a large quantity of narcotics from its trunk. The driver, who has a prior criminal record, was found in possession of over 8.9 kilograms of hashish.
The special operation was carried out by personnel from the Border Troops of the State Security Service and other law enforcement agencies. During the operation, a Tracker vehicle traveling from Tashkent to Fergana was stopped at a road patrol post.
Upon inspecting the vehicle's interior, officers discovered 1.72 grams of a narcotic substance, which the 36-year-old driver, a resident of Fergana previously convicted of robbery, claimed was for personal use.
A more thorough search of the trunk revealed an additional 8.9 kilograms of hashish. According to investigators, the suspect had received the drugs from couriers who had smuggled them from a neighboring country into the Tashkent region. The man was heading to his permanent residence.
A criminal case has been opened against him. Law enforcement authorities urge citizens to report any information related to drug trafficking by calling the short number 1520, with confidentiality guaranteed.
Earlier, in Kokand, authorities intercepted a large shipment of narcotics and potent drugs, seizing 2.4 kilograms of hashish and 5,600 Regapen tablets from a suspect.
