President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has sent a welcoming address to participants of events marking the declaration of Andijan as the ‘Cultural Capital of the Turkic World’ for 2026.

The head of state congratulated compatriots, heads of international organizations, foreign ambassadors, and cultural, literary, and artistic figures, expressing gratitude to the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) and its member states for granting the city this high status. The President emphasized that the decision is an international recognition of Uzbekistan’s rich heritage and its contribution to the development of Turkic culture.

In his address, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the historical role of Andijan as the eastern gateway of the country and a center of craftsmanship, literature, and art. This land has nurtured great statesmen, scientists, and poets, among whom Babur Mirzo and Abdulhamid Cholpon hold a special place. The dance ‘Andijan Polka’ and the art of wit ‘askiya’ that have made the region famous have become common cultural assets. Uzbekistan is actively developing cooperation with TURKSOY, resulting in the publication of a 100-volume set ‘Pearls of Turkic Literature’ and the opening of a TURKSOY office in the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan this April.

The head of state also highlighted the successful participation of Uzbek artists in the organization’s festivals, recalling that children’s ensembles won the Grand Prix at an international festival in February this year. Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed confidence that the festivals, scientific conferences, and creative meetings planned throughout the year will strengthen friendly ties between brotherly peoples and open new opportunities for the younger generation.
