Tashkent, Podrobno.uz. The administration of Mirzo-Ulugbek district has commented on a viral video showing an elderly pensioner complaining that her social worker locks her inside her apartment and leaves her without water.

According to the district authorities, the woman is registered as a lonely elderly citizen, receives a regular pension and financial aid, and is visited at home under the “Step to Active Life” program.

Officials stated that the apartment has running water and natural gas. The gas valve was temporarily removed by the social worker for safety reasons.

The social worker visits the pensioner according to a set schedule. One set of keys is kept by the woman, the other by the social worker. This is explained by age-related memory loss, as the woman does not always recognize visitors.

The authorities also spoke with the blogger who posted the video. It turned out that neighbors had asked the blogger for help to open the apartment.

The use of the woman’s bank card and funds is monitored through an electronic social services system. She will also undergo additional medical examination.

The district administration stated that the situation remains under control and that necessary social assistance will continue.
