A closed screening of the documentary film 'Hero of the Era' took place in Uzbekistan. Produced by BWG Production and 7SABER, the film is dedicated to politician, statesman, and writer Sharof Rashidov.
The filmmakers invite viewers to re-examine his life and career, highlighting both achievements and controversial aspects of that historical period. The film covers the Aral Sea tragedy, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and the 'Cotton Affair'.
The documentary features interviews with historians, eyewitnesses, and members of Rashidov's family, including his daughter Gulnora Rashidova and granddaughter Sevara Rashidova.
Appearing in the film are academics Shukhrat Egamberdiev and Sadulla Iskandarov, cosmonaut and aviation major general Vladimir Dzhanibekov, and architect Sergo Sutyagin. Memories of former USSR Prime Minister Nikolai Ryzhkov are also included.
Production of the film took six years. Filming took place in Uzbekistan, Belarus, and Russia.
'The main character is Sharof Rashidov, but this film is also about a generation that built, created, made mistakes, and achieved enormous results under the conditions of their time. It is a film about how joy and pain often go hand in hand, how easily a person's fate can be 'torn out of context' and turned into damnatio memoriae (condemnation of memory),' said screenwriter and director Ruslan Saliev.
The director added that the film is not an academic study but is made for the audience. If it sparks interest in deeper historical study, the goal will be achieved.
The film's chief producer is Sherzod Umarov, director of photography Sarvar Sobirov, and sound producer Kamron Tuychiev. According to him, the main task of the musical score was to convey the era's atmosphere while maintaining a modern tone.
The premiere of 'Hero of the Era' will take place on August 1 at 18:00 on Zo‘r TV. The film will be broadcast simultaneously in Uzbek and Russian.
BWG Production has previously released films such as 'Hamid and Zulfiya', 'Legends of Uzbek Dance', and a 15-minute musical short film 'Sadoqat' based on Abdulla Qodiriy's novel 'Days Gone By'.
