In Uzbekistan, 111 people drowned during the first six months of 2026, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), as reported by UzNews.uz.
From January to June, an average of one person drowned every two days in the country. This figure is notably higher than in previous years, indicating an increase in water-related tragedies due to disregard for safety rules.
For instance, a 16-year-old teenager recently drowned in Tashkent. In the Samarkand region, four people became victims of water accidents; in the Surkhandarya region, three young men died while swimming in a river; and in the Jizzakh region, three underage girls drowned in an artificial reservoir.
The MES urged citizens to follow safety rules while resting near water bodies, swim only in specially equipped areas, and not leave children unattended near water.
Experts point out that water tragedies often occur due to violation of swimming rules, alcohol consumption, and lack of supervision over children. They call on parents to constantly monitor their children near water and strengthen precautionary measures.
