Uzbekistani tennis player Polina Kudermetova failed to advance past the first round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto, Canada. The match ended prematurely as the athlete retired during the second set.

In the opening round, Kudermetova, ranked 108th in the world, faced Russian Alina Korneeva, who is ranked 89th. The match did not go in favor of the Uzbekistani representative from the start: she lost the first set 0-6.

The situation did not improve in the second set. Trailing 0-3, Kudermetova decided to withdraw from the match, having spent only 37 minutes on court.

During that time, Korneeva recorded an ace, avoided double faults, and converted most of her break opportunities. Kudermetova, on the other hand, failed to put up a fight — no aces, several double faults, and no break points earned.

It is worth recalling that in December 2025, Russian-born Polina Kudermetova changed her sporting nationality and began representing Uzbekistan.

In January 2026, she won a silver medal at the Canberra Challenger international tennis tournament.
