An investigation has been launched in the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan following reports that 11 century-old Zeravshan junipers were uprooted in a forestry area. Environmentalists, the Eco-Police, the General Prosecutor's Office, and local authorities have joined the probe.

The incident occurred in the Sangardak neighborhood within the Uzun forestry enterprise. Preliminary data suggests the trees were uprooted without the necessary permits, despite prior warnings from environmental services.

Specialists are currently assessing the damage caused to nature, checking the legality of construction work, and identifying those responsible. It has been preliminarily established that the uprooted junipers were approximately 100 years old.

Once the investigation is complete, the perpetrators will be brought to justice in accordance with the law. This case highlights the ongoing challenges in enforcing environmental regulations and protecting ancient natural landmarks in the region.

Earlier, environmentalists examined the mass uprooting of trees at the Surkhandarya Scientific-Experimental Station in Denau. After the inspection, specialists stated that the green spaces were toppled by strong winds.
