Fabio Cannavaro, the head coach of the Uzbekistan national football team, has given his first detailed comments on the team's performance at the 2026 World Cup. At a press conference, he responded to criticism, denied rumors about his salary, and outlined how the national team will evolve in the coming years.

At the start of the press conference, the Italian specialist addressed rumors circulating around the team. In particular, he denied information about the size of his salary, calling such publications unreliable. Cannavaro urged journalists to verify information before publishing and stressed that many reports about the team do not correspond to reality.

Speaking about the World Cup results, where Uzbekistan lost all three group-stage matches, the coach noted that the team debuted at the tournament and immediately found itself in a group with very strong opponents. According to him, the difference in experience and skill level largely predetermined the outcome.

However, Cannavaro rejected claims of a complete failure. He said he evaluates work not only by the final score but also by the content of the game. The coach stated that the players fully completed their task and left all their strength on the field, and the tournament itself was an important experience not only for the players but also for the coaching staff, the Football Federation, and the fans.

The specialist also spoke about future plans. According to him, the team will undergo a gradual renewal of the squad. The coaching staff intends to change the tactical scheme, more actively involve young players, and begin preparation for the next cycle with an eye on the Asian Cup. Cannavaro noted that many players included in the World Cup squad received this chance as recognition of their contribution to the successful qualification campaign.

Another priority will be holding matches against stronger opponents. In the coach's opinion, such meetings allow the team to progress faster and gain international experience.

Cannavaro announced that Uzbekistan will soon play a match against South Korea. In addition, negotiations are ongoing to organize a friendly match with Iran in Tashkent, as well as with another top national team, whose name has not yet been disclosed.
