In the Navoi region of Uzbekistan, authorities have thwarted an attempt at illegal drug trafficking. A citizen of Kazakhstan was detained with 2.87 kilograms of opium. According to investigators, he had retrieved the prohibited substance from a hidden cache where it had been placed by smugglers.
The State Security Service reported that the arrest took place in the Konimekh district during a joint operation with customs officials. During an inspection of a Cobalt car, a package containing a narcotic substance was found on a 24-year-old passenger. Forensic analysis confirmed it was opium with a total weight of 2.87 kilograms.
Preliminary data suggests that the drug had been smuggled across the state border and left in a hiding spot, from which the suspect later retrieved it. A criminal case has been opened on charges of smuggling. The man has been taken into custody, and investigative actions are ongoing.
Law enforcement officials also urged citizens to report any instances of drug trafficking to the short number 1520, guaranteeing confidentiality.
It is worth recalling that earlier, security forces disrupted a major channel for smuggling heavy drugs near the Kuilyuk market in Tashkent.
