Uzbekistan plans to allocate an additional $70 million to expand computing capacities needed for the development of artificial intelligence projects. The funds are expected to be used for modernizing the existing cluster and creating new infrastructure.

The development of computing resources was one of the topics presented to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev regarding the results and future tasks in building the country's AI ecosystem. The presentation highlighted the growing demand for such capacities in both the public and private sectors.

Currently, a supercomputer complex is already operating at the 'Digital Government' data center in Uzbekistan. It is based on technologies from the American company NVIDIA and ranks 321st in the world in terms of computing power. After its launch, the system showed high demand for computing resources: within the first month, cluster utilization reached 90%.

This indicates the need for such capacities to implement government and commercial projects. At present, the country has commissioned computing infrastructure worth $24 million. In the future, it is planned to expand it through additional investments and implement new projects jointly with foreign partners. In particular, the creation of data centers in Karakalpakstan is being considered.

For effective operation of AI systems, not only computing power but also the quality of data used is crucial. In this regard, ministries and agencies have been tasked with inventorying available information, verifying its completeness and reliability, and ensuring data integration between different systems.

Additionally, sectoral datasets are planned to be formed for the development and implementation of AI solutions in the economy and social sphere. This is an important part of the state strategy for AI development.

Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan would begin large-scale digitalization of its water management system. Starting in September 2026, a unified electronic platform is planned to be launched, which will reflect all water infrastructure projects and data on groundwater conditions. Also, a new position of deputy chairman of the board responsible for digitalization and AI implementation will be introduced at Uzsuvtaminot JSC.
