During a meeting between the President of Uzbekistan and entrepreneurs, Farhod Mamatjanov, founder of UzTex Group and major shareholder of InfinBank, reminded that two years ago at a meeting in Karakalpakstan he presented plans to attract British telecom company Vodafone. According to him, subsequent work was carried out with Dutch company Veon.
It was noted that all key agreements with Veon were reached in June. To sign the agreement, only the conclusion of the Committee for Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights is needed.
"They are ready to sign an agreement to attract $200 million. The only problem is obtaining a conclusion from the Antimonopoly Committee," said Mamatjanov, asking the president to take the matter under control.
A representative of the Committee for Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights reported that on July 24 the company applied for preliminary consent to conclude an economic concentration deal. According to him, the conclusion is planned to be provided by Entrepreneurs' Day.
The president stated he would take this matter under personal control. Recall that earlier there were reports of plans to launch a new mobile operator in Uzbekistan with the participation of British Vodafone. It was assumed that the company would deploy a 5G Standalone network, with investments of about €250 million. The operator's launch was expected in early 2025.
