Law enforcement agencies in the Tashkent region have reportedly cracked down on official corruption involving a high-ranking local municipal official. The deputy governor of the Tashkent district was taken into custody during a special sting operation conducted by the State Security Service.

According to investigators, the official allegedly demanded 25,000 US dollars from a local entrepreneur. In exchange, the deputy supposedly promised to arrange for a 1-hectare plot of land from the local administration's balance to be put up for public auction, enabling the businessman to establish a construction technology and composite door manufacturing complex. The suspect reportedly claimed he could facilitate this through personal connections within the state asset management system.

Operatives from the Tashkent regional department of the State Security Service caught the official red-handed while receiving the extortion money. Authorities have initiated a criminal case under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and ongoing investigative procedures are currently underway to uncover the full scope of the alleged scheme.
