A disturbing video circulating widely across social media networks in Tashkent has sparked sharp condemnation from local animal rights activists and concerned citizens. The footage allegedly shows adult individuals tying a rope around a cat's neck and handing it over to a young child, who pulls on the tether while the distressed animal desperately struggles to break free.
Representatives from the Animal Life in Uzbekistan community drew attention to the alarming nature of the incident, pointing out that instead of preventing the cruelty, the adults actively orchestrated the child's participation. Activists argue that such permissive behavior drastically distorts children's perception of empathy, teaching them harmful attitudes toward living creatures rather than fostering humane values.
The community has formally called upon law enforcement agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event and to evaluate whether the perpetrators can be prosecuted under Article 111 of the Administrative Responsibility Code, which penalizes acts of animal cruelty. Critics insist that strict legal measures are necessary to deter such behavior in society.
As of the time of publication, no official statements or responses have been released by local authorities regarding the investigation. This incident contrasts with a previous positive event in the capital's metro system, where transit workers successfully rescued a cat trapped on the tracks at the Kosmonavtlar station.
