The governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan have reached an agreement for a temporary ceasefire in observance of the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced the decision, with Afghan authorities subsequently stating they would take a reciprocal step.

The ceasefire is set to take effect from midnight on March 19 and last until midnight on March 24. Tarar stated that Pakistan is temporarily suspending its "Gazab lil-Haq" operation against terrorists and their infrastructure in Afghan territory. However, Islamabad warned that military actions would resume immediately if an attack is launched from Afghanistan.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the suspension of hostilities, noting that the decision was made in response to appeals from "brotherly Muslim countries." Relations between the two neighboring states remain tense, particularly in border areas where conflict has persisted for an extended period.

Eid al-Fitr is one of the principal Muslim holidays, marking the end of fasting during the month of Ramadan. While this temporary peace initiative aims at regional stability, the prospects for long-term agreements remain uncertain amid ongoing frictions.
