The event has drawn sharp protests from Beijing, further complicating bilateral diplomacy amid ongoing tensions over Taiwan.

China's Foreign Ministry expressed being "deeply shocked" and lodged "a strong protest" with Tokyo, demanding a thorough investigation and punishment for the individual. Spokesperson Lin Jian alleged that the military personnel threatened to kill diplomats. Japan's top government spokesperson, Minoru Kihara, described the incident as "truly regrettable," noting that police are investigating and security measures around the embassy have been reinforced to prevent recurrence.

According to police reports, the suspect claimed he intended to meet the ambassador to urge him to "refrain from making hardline remarks," and if rejected, he wanted to "surprise him by killing myself." This breach occurred against a backdrop of deteriorating Sino-Japanese relations, fueled by comments from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi last November suggesting potential military intervention if China attacks Taiwan.

China, which views Taiwan as part of its territory and has not ruled out using force for annexation, reacted furiously to Takaichi's remarks. The latest embassy incident deepens the diplomatic rift, highlighting the fragility of regional stability and raising concerns about escalating frictions between the two Asian powers.
