US President Donald Trump stated that the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit scheduled for December in Miami would be 'useful', according to Deutsche Welle.
However, Trump reportedly claimed he was unaware of an invitation to the Russian leader and expressed doubt that Putin would attend.
The Washington Post reported that the White House allegedly plans to invite Putin to the upcoming summit.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said no decision has been made yet on Putin's participation.
Russian news agency RIA Novosti, citing Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin, reported that Moscow has received 'an invitation to attend at the highest level'. 'But we will see closer to the date. God knows what will happen before then,' the diplomat purportedly said.
