The Joint Terrorism Analysis Center (JTAC) has raised the UK's terror threat level from 'substantial' to 'severe', indicating that an attack is highly likely within the next six months.

The escalation follows an attack on two Jewish men, aged 34 and 76, in the Golders Green neighborhood of north London on Wednesday. The incident was declared a terrorism offense, and a suspect remains in police custody. The victims are in stable condition.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated: 'Today, the national threat level has increased to 'severe,' which means a terrorist attack is considered highly likely. I know this will be a source of concern to many, particularly amongst our Jewish community, who have suffered so much.'

Golders Green is home to over half of Britain's Jewish population. The attack comes amid a series of arson incidents being investigated as anti-Semitic, raising fears within the community.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who visited Golders Green, pledged his government would do 'everything in our power to stamp this hatred out.' The government will invest an additional £25 million in increased police patrols and security for Jewish communities, and fast-track legislation to give authorities stronger powers against proxy groups.
