US President Donald Trump has suggested a scenario of rapid regime change in Cuba, threatening to use the power of the American navy to pressure Havana. The statement came as he signed a decree imposing a new package of harsh sanctions against the island.

Speaking in Florida, Trump said that after resolving issues with Iran, Washington would shift its focus to Cuba. According to him, the administration is ready to act decisively to take control of the situation on the island.

"When we come back from Iran, our aircraft carriers — possibly the USS Abraham Lincoln — may anchor right off their coast. And then they will say: 'Thank you very much, we surrender'," the president stated.

On the same day, the White House officially expanded the sanctions list. Trump's decree introduces blocking measures against Cuba's energy, mining, and financial sectors. The key innovation is "secondary sanctions": any foreign banks and organizations that help the Cuban government circumvent the US blockade will now be targeted.

The US administration openly states that the goal of these measures is to deprive Havana of access to currency and energy resources. Trump has already called on the Cuban leadership to "make a deal", emphasizing that time for negotiations is limited.

Havana reacted harshly to Washington's statements. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said the people are ready for resistance. Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stressed that the US has no right to impose its will on third countries through extraterritorial sanctions.
