Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv also struck two shadow fleet tankers near the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. The two sides continue to exchange hundreds of drones daily.
Ukraine launched dozens of drones at the oil loading port of Primorsk in northwestern Russia on Sunday, sparking a fire, the local governor said. Primorsk, on the Baltic Sea, is one of Russia's largest export hubs, with a capacity of one million barrels of oil per day.
Regional Governor Alexander Drozdenko said on Telegram that the fire had been extinguished and no oil spill was reported. He added that over 60 drones were shot down over the region. Independent outlet Astra cited satellite image analysis suggesting the oil terminal and a Pantsir air defense system were likely hit.
Ukraine has stepped up drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure in recent months to harm the Russian economy and disrupt fuel supplies to Russian forces. Zelenskyy said on social media: "These tankers had been actively used to transport oil — not anymore."
Russia's Defense Ministry said Ukraine fired 334 drones overnight, while Ukraine's air force said Russia launched 268 drones and one ballistic missile. A man was killed in a Ukrainian drone attack near Moscow. In Ukraine's southern Odesa region, port infrastructure was damaged and two people were killed. A third person was killed in a Russian strike in the Kherson region.
Russia and Ukraine have traded daily drone barrages for most of the war, as US-mediated talks to end the fighting have stalled.
