The European Union (EU) has decided to impose additional customs duties on electric vehicles manufactured in China. According to an official statement, these measures are allegedly aimed at protecting the European automotive industry from “unfair competition.”

The new tariffs, announced by the European Commission, provide for additional duties ranging from 17% to 36% on Chinese EVs. The decision was made after Brussels accused Beijing of providing illegal advantages to its manufacturers through state subsidies.

EU officials claim that these measures are necessary to preserve European industry and support the transition to green energy. However, critics argue that such protectionist policies could lead to a trade war and increase prices for consumers.

The Chinese government, in turn, strongly criticized the EU’s decision, calling it a “unilateral and unfair trade measure.” Beijing stated it is ready to take retaliatory actions if necessary.

Experts note that this decision could lead to significant changes in the global automotive industry. Chinese EVs hold a substantial share of the European market, and the new tariffs will seriously impact their competitiveness.
