United States head coach Mauricio Pochettino has named his 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup, with Christian Pulisic, Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie expected to lead the team on home soil. The Americans aim for a deep run in the tournament they co-host with Mexico and Canada.
The squad is evenly split between 13 World Cup debutants and 13 players who featured in the 2022 tournament in Qatar, where the US reached the round of 16. All three goal scorers from Qatar — Pulisic, Tim Weah and Haji Wright — are included.
“We are confident this is the best group of 26 players to help us achieve success at the World Cup,” Pochettino said. “These were very difficult decisions, and we are thankful to all the players who were part of this journey.”
Pulisic (AC Milan) remains the team's most recognizable star, while Adams (Bournemouth) provides a combative midfield presence. Weston McKennie adds experience. AS Monaco striker Folarin Balogun is expected to compete for the starting striker role in Pochettino's preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.
Gio Reyna was included despite limited playing time at Borussia Mönchengladbach, offering creativity. Alejandro Zendejas earned a spot after a strong season with Club America, having been left off the March roster. Notable omissions include injured Diego Luna and Lyon midfielder Tanner Tessmann.
McKennie said the squad has a chance to inspire a new generation: “It’s a great opportunity for everyone on the roster and for the fans who maybe don’t know a lot about soccer here in America to feel the passion.”
The US open Group D play against Paraguay on June 12 at SoFi Stadium near Los Angeles.
