Uzbekistan's national hydrometeorological service, Uzhydromet, has issued an official warning about potential mudflows and flash floods in the foothill and mountainous areas of the country from September 30 to October 2. The alert, published in the agency's regular bulletin, cites heavy rainfall expected across these regions as the primary trigger for the hazardous conditions.

According to the warning, rainwater accumulation in certain areas could lead to localized flooding. The risk is particularly acute for settlements nestled at the foot of mountains, recreational zones, and roads winding through mountainous terrain. Experts note that due to saturated soil and complex topography, mudflows can form rapidly, leaving little time for evacuation or response.

Uzhydromet has strongly advised residents of foothill and mountain areas, as well as tourists and drivers traveling through these zones, to take precautionary measures. Specifically, people are urged to avoid riverbeds and ravines where mudflow risk is highest, to monitor weather forecasts regularly, and to contact emergency services immediately if a dangerous situation arises.

While the warning did not specify which regions are most at risk, similar alerts in previous years have typically covered the mountainous districts of Tashkent, Namangan, Fergana, Andijan, Surkhandarya, and Kashkadarya regions. Local authorities and emergency management departments have reportedly begun preparatory work in response to the alert.

Citizens are advised to postpone planned trips to mountainous areas during rainy days, exercise caution while driving, and move to higher ground immediately if a mudflow occurs. Uzhydromet said it will issue additional updates on changing weather conditions in the coming days.
