German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier left for a five-day trip to Asia on Sunday. His itinerary includes Indonesia, the Philippines, and Uzbekistan.
The president's wife, Elke Büdenbender, and a business delegation are accompanying him. In Indonesia, a Muslim-majority country, Steinmeier will focus on the peaceful coexistence of different religions.
In the Philippines, he will visit a production facility of German airline Lufthansa and meet Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa. In Tashkent, a visit to a branch of German construction company GP Günter Papenburg is planned.
According to the presidential office, Uzbekistan has more German-language learners than any other country in Asia. Steinmeier's trip aims to strengthen international ties and expand economic cooperation.
