Deepti Sharma claimed five wickets as India bowled out Pakistan for 106 to secure a dominant 64-run victory in the opening match of the Women's T20 World Cup. The win marks a strong start for India in their quest for a first title in the format.

Playing at a packed Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, Sharma dismantled the lower order, taking the last three wickets in five balls to defend India's total of 170. Shree Charani supported with figures of 3-21.

Pakistan's chase began promisingly, but India seized control by the 10th over. Muneeba Ali, dropped twice, managed 41 before being run out by a brilliant direct hit from Sharma at backward point.

After captain Fatima Sana fell at 77-5, Pakistan collapsed. Sharma's 5-10 made her the highest wicket-taker in women's T20Is with 166 scalps. "I always believe in myself," said the all-rounder.

India's innings was anchored by Smriti Mandhana, who was dropped on 27 and accelerated to a 50 off 34 balls. She survived a concussion check after being hit on the helmet and fell for 55.

Richa Ghosh's explosive 34 off 17 balls, including 23 runs off debutant Tasmia Rubab, propelled India past 170. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised Ghosh's role.

India have now beaten Pakistan in all World Cup meetings across formats. Continuing a trend from last year's Asia Cup, Indian players did not shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts for the second consecutive World Cup.

In the day's other match, Bangladesh pulled off a record chase to beat the Netherlands. Chasing 140, they reached 141-4 with five balls left, their highest successful World Cup chase.

Juairiya Ferdous scored 50 off 33 balls, surviving two dropped chances. An unbeaten 56-run stand between Sharmin Akhter and Shorna Akter sealed the win for Bangladesh.
