Two major earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday, causing widespread destruction in the coastal city of La Guaira, located north of the capital Caracas.

Aerial footage reveals collapsed multi-story buildings and debris-filled streets. Rescue operations are underway as authorities assess the damage.

The Venezuelan government declared a state of emergency and deployed military personnel to coordinate relief efforts. The number of casualties remains unknown, but officials fear people may be trapped under rubble.

The earthquakes' epicenter was in the Caribbean Sea at a depth of approximately 20 km. Seismologists warn of possible aftershocks.
