Police in the German city of Regensburg are responding to a potential hostage-taking at a bank branch, where at least one person has sustained life-threatening injuries. The suspect is believed to be armed with a knife.

Authorities have not yet been able to enter the building, and the suspect's location inside remains unclear. Special police units and a helicopter have been dispatched to the scene.

A police spokeswoman stated that the motive is unknown and no demands have been made. It is too early to officially classify the incident as a hostage situation, as it is not confirmed whether the suspect is holding any hostages.

Regensburg, a city of about 150,000 people in eastern Bavaria near the Czech border, is now the focus of a major police operation. The investigation is ongoing.
