Zinedine Zidane has been appointed as the head coach of the France national football team. The 54-year-old specialist has signed a four-year contract that runs until the 2030 World Cup.

Zidane becomes the 18th head coach in the history of the French national team. He will officially start work on August 1, and will announce his coaching staff in early September. His first match in charge will be against Turkey in the Nations League at the end of September.

Zidane replaces Didier Deschamps, who led the team for 14 years. Under Deschamps, France won the 2018 World Cup and the Nations League, and reached the finals of Euro 2016 and the 2022 World Cup.

Zidane has not worked as a coach since 2021, when he left Real Madrid. With the Spanish club, he won the Champions League three times in a row.

It is worth recalling that the French national team finished fourth at the 2026 World Cup, losing the bronze medal match to England 4-6.
