Israel announced the start of an offensive campaign against the Hezbollah organization in Lebanon. This was stated by IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant Colonel Eyal Zamir, as reported by the country's army press service on a Telegram channel.
"We are not only on defense, we want to go on the offensive. We need to prepare for many days of fighting," he noted.
On the night of March 1-2, sirens were activated due to missile launches from Lebanon. One missile was intercepted, several others fell in open areas. No casualties or damage were recorded, the Israeli army clarified.
Later, the IDF press service reported "precision strikes on senior Hezbollah terrorists in the Beirut area" and the elimination of one of Hezbollah's leaders in southern Lebanon. According to Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath, the strike resulted in the death of Mohammed Raad, head of the political wing of the "Loyalty to the Resistance" organization in parliament.
The Israeli army press service emphasized that Hezbollah initiated the campaign against Israel and bears full responsibility for any escalation of the conflict.
