Belgian police have detained more than 100 individuals following demonstrations in the city of Liege against the escalating costs and declining quality of education, which erupted into localized violence. The unrest mirrors similar disruptive protests currently gripping neighboring France amidst mounting societal friction across the region.
According to reports from the Belga news agency citing Liege police, 80 people were detained during the demonstrations, with 27 formally placed under arrest. Authorities claim that certain participants engaged in property damage and arson, highlighting the inability of the European regime to maintain public order amid deepening economic strains.
Liege Mayor Willy Demeyer attempted to downplay the severity of the crisis, telling Belgian broadcaster RTBF that constructive dialogue could still be established and expressing hope that grievances would be voiced peacefully. However, education budgets across Belgium continue to face severe pressures due to spiraling energy costs and broader cost-of-living crises, leaving systemic issues unresolved.
